Vietnam Visa

A Vietnam visa is an official document issued by the competent authorities of Vietnam, permitting foreign nationals to enter, exit, or transit through Vietnamese territory. The visa clearly states the purpose and duration of the foreign national’s stay in Vietnam.

At Expat Service Solutions, we assist clients in gaining a better understanding of the visa application procedures and offer fast and efficient visa services.

Types of Visas for Entry into Vietnam

According to the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit, and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam, visas are categorized into various types based on the purpose of entry, including:

  • Tourist Visa (DL): For individuals entering Vietnam for tourism purposes.
  • Business Visa (DN1, DN2): For individuals working with enterprises in Vietnam.
  • Work Visa (LĐ1, LĐ2): For individuals entering Vietnam for employment purposes.
  • Dependent/Relative visit Visa (TT/Dependent): For individuals visiting family members in Vietnam.

Investment Visa (ĐT1, ĐT2, ĐT3, ĐT4): For foreign investors entering Vietnam.

E-visa: An electronic visa issued online for foreign nationals wishing to enter Vietnam for a period not exceeding 90 days.

Validity and number of entries:

The validity and number of entries permitted by a visa depend on the visa type and the purpose of entry. For instance, tourist visas typically have shorter validity periods compared to work or investment visas. U.S. citizens may be granted visas valid for up to one year with multiple entries.

Vietnam entry visas are classified based on the number of entries and the duration of validity as follows:

  • Single-entry visa: Allows foreign nationals to enter Vietnam once during the visa’s validity period. Once the holder exits the country, the visa becomes invalid, even if it has not yet expired.
  • Multiple-entry visa: Allows foreign nationals to enter and exit Vietnam multiple times during the visa’s validity period without needing to apply for a new visa each time.

Selecting the appropriate visa type depends on your specific needs and travel plans in Vietnam.

New regulations on tourist Visas for foreigners

According to the amended Law on Entry, Exit, Transit, and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam, effective from August 15, 2023, several updates have been introduced to attract more international tourists:

  • The validity of tourist visas (DL and e-tourist visas) has been extended to up to 3 months.
  • Visa exemption periods for tourism purposes have been increased to 45 days for citizens of certain countries.
Visa Exemption

Certain individuals are eligible for visa exemption when entering Vietnam, including:

  • Citizens of countries that have bilateral visa exemption agreements with Vietnam.
  • Overseas Vietnamese and foreign nationals who are spouses or children of Vietnamese citizens or overseas Vietnamese may be granted a Visa Exemption Certificate with a validity of up to five years.

Understanding the different types of visas and the relevant regulations will help foreign nationals better prepare for their entry and stay in Vietnam.
